Glimpses VII

Thanksgiving at Livingstone Lodge...

The two "kids" tables

Sophia helping with the gravy and learning from the best.

What a beautiful meal and table!!

One to be savored and eaten slowly...twice.

Songs and stories after dinner...

Mr. French and all his sons singing...the others are sitting...the log walls offering the BEST acoustics.
Wonderful voices and fun!

Grey and wet day for my birthday...but the Santos kids always provide me with sunshine.

The next day, the Lord provided the snow!!

That was my spot...

This was theirs...

Kissable rosy cheeks...

Ammunition ready...

O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

Thankful Tea

 I'm Having...

My usual: Jasmine tea with a slice of sourdough toast. What are you having?
Can I get you anything else? I always have a chocolate stash...

I'm feeling...

Sustained, my new normal.  I look with confidence to the day when Life will overflow again. Who's to say my bare sustenance is not abundance to another person anyway? We don't always see how rich we really are. Besides, it is the poor and needy remnant that puts their trust in God. Have you ever considered that being poor and needy is a gift and not a curse?

I'm Thankful for...

My children. Yes, I know, every mother is thankful for their children...but these aren't just my children. They are my friends, my fellow laborers, they share my dreams, fears and struggles.

We fight, laugh, cry and build together. I am so, so thankful for them!

I'm wondering...

How are you? What are you most thankful for?
Do you celebrate Thanksgiving where you live?
How? We will have dinner with good friends and hopefully share
our testimonies of God's goodness.

It's amazing to me how little people consider that God and his angels, and Satan and his fellows live among us. We ignore that reality and live only in the tangible...but we are SOULS. Life is spiritual. Physical circumstances are temporary, but life is eternal. Giving Thanks should include more than the touch and feel stuff...

It should include Love...

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant
or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;
it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

I pray I can love more...

Outside my window...

COLD Sunshine...but lovely still.

The roads are littered with fallen branches from the windstorm yesterday, but the clean air makes both the Olympics and the Cascades well defined against an icy blue sky.

I am thankful...

For Truth and Light.

So many people live lies and walk in darkness.
It doesn't have to be that way, if they would only know Jesus.

In the kitchen...

White chicken chili soup
and pumpkin pie.

'Tis the season for all things pumpkin!

I am wearing...

and lots of layers.

That's my excuse for looking plump it's not the pumpkin pie, and no it's not all the candy I ate last's the layers.

I am hearing...

The sounds of violins coming through the library wall.
Santos kids are having their lessons next door.

I am going...

To figure out how to get my car out of the garage when the power goes out.

We were stranded yesterday!!

I enjoy being at home anyway...

On my mind...

Our young people.

As a school bus driver I see so many kids from all walks of life.
My heart breaks for them!!

Enticed by tempting empty things, they wander about seeking

Most of them end up wandering around in circles for years.

I want to gather them up, to love them, to show them the ancient paths.
But all I can do is drive them to school, drive them home, smile at them

and PRAY.

Perhaps a door of opportunity might open for me, for them, for us.

I am reading...

Brokenness, the Forgotten Factor of Prayer by Mickey Bonner.

In the evenings the children are reading aloud the Little House series. We are almost done with the second book. Am I the only one that finds it difficult to get the kids off the electronics? Our nightly readings and violin practices help...but where is the LOVE?

Most nights it's, "let's get this over with so I can get back on my Kindle/Phone."

I am hoping...

That all my "old fashioned" ways will become good memories for my kids.

Around the house...

Candles and dust, or is it soot?

Seems I am constantly dusting now that we use the wood stove daily...and vacuuming!

One of my favorite things...

A few plans for the rest of the month:

Thanksgiving Celebration and
Another birthday for me...
more wrinkles, grey, and pains...
and more understanding, joy, and peace.

A picture thought to share...

Not my photo...just a favorite.

Reformation Weekend

On October 31st, while most were celebrating Halloween,
we were driving to a beautiful Refuge in the woods.

It was there we enjoyed a small family retreat and celebrated The Reformation.

We learned a lot and had a great time.

The entrance to the beautiful "Refuge"

The living room

One of two great libraries

Our own private sitting room

...where I slept.

...Noah happy in the Loft of our room.

John Wycliffe straight out of the 1300's.

Martin Luther at the Diet of Worms.

Martin Luther captured by bandits

Along with the Reformation vignettes and instruction we had plenty of time for fun and relaxation.

I was ping-pong champion all weekend.

OK! OK! My main competition was under 12 years old...still.

Most of the lovely people we spent the weekend with.

Test time!!

The kids divided into teams to answer tough questions about The Reformation.

The prize?

Sweet indulgences!
